Our ego convinces us that our identity depends on staying within the confines of our thoughts, where everything feels familiar and comfortable. But, to truly experience flow, we must break free from the walls created by our ego. Meditation allows us to poke holes in those walls, helping us realize that our thoughts are not our reality- our mind becomes rooted in awareness, and we grow less attached to our thoughts, and stop clinging to feelings that make our life difficult.

Although meditation may be pursued half-heartedly for ego-driven reasons, such as to increase pleasure or power, the practice paradoxically leads to liberation from ego when we overcome our resistance to change. Meditation helps to crumble the walls of our ego-driven thoughts, allowing deeper motives to emerge and encouraging us to further our practice.

The purpose of meditation is to move away from daily thoughts more comfortably and freely, letting us live in the present moment by shedding the confines of our ego, where flow exists. In conclusion, meditation enables us to transform our mind, promotes self-awareness, and helps us experience a moment of flow where we can operate in perfect harmony with the world.

Finding Your Meditation Match

Grounding is necessary for this “meditation-in-action,” as it allows for a spaciousness around daily experiences. Simplifying one’s life becomes easier with meditation, and distractions should be limited to make the process smoother. Changes in identity and tastes may occur as one delves deeper into meditation, but lifestyle changes shouldn’t be rushed and attachments must be let go of at an individual pace.
